In the VC arm, we have invested in 7 portfolio companies so far: Friss (NL – insurtech), Ravelin (UK – payments), Pretto (FR – mortgages), Descartes underwriting (FR – insurtech), Viabill (DK – payments), Agicap (FR – cashflow management) & Epsor (FR – employee savings).
How do you strucutre your relationship to your investments?
We are active investors, typically with a board seat, looking to help with 1) recruitment of top-tier elements with intimate knowledge of the financial services industry; 2) introductions to C-level executives at banks & insurance companies; 3) opening up our network across Europe.

They’re all successful obviously! The largest check we’ve written so far is €7.5m
How visible have you been in the past year? (news, conferences etc)
We’re essentially going to all fintech-related events (mainstream ones as well as smaller-scale events): Paris Fintech Forum, Lendit, Noah conference, MPE Berlin, Exec Fintech & Insurtech (obviously!), Slush among many others. Most of the time, we speak at a panel or are part of a jury at those events. As for the news element, some of our medium posts are used by tech-savvy press (but that is definitely something we need to work on)

We regularly deep dive into certain subsegments of the financial services industry and are able to spot some of the areas that are most ripe for newcomers to reap market share from incumbents either through superior technology or through flawless execution.
How much do you manage in assets?
BlackFin as a whole manages over €700m (with more to be announced soon) and the fintech fund manages €180m.
